Birds of a feather flock together

‘Birds of a feather flock together. What does this mean..? It’s a proverb which means people of the same sort or with the same tastes and interests will be found together. They will have a common interest, have the same way of speaking and reacting to situations and other distinctive attributes tend to mutually associate.

Be very deliberate before associating yourself with any group of people. It is because the company you spend time with plays a very vital role in determining or molding your character. It happens gradually and you won’t even notice.

If you are spending time with people who have a growth mindset, are proactive, and have a positive attitude towards life, you will become one of them after some time.

But if you are spending time with people who are negative and procrastinators, whiners who don’t take responsibility and blame the system for their failure, you will become one of them though you are not that kind of a person today.

You become what you think most of the time. And if you are in a company that is toxic and demotivating and always grumble about how bad things happen to them, it will affect your subconscious and similar traits will reflect in your personality too.

You can easily find these kinds of people everywhere if you stop and notice their behavior. While working in an office as an Architect, I noticed there was a group of people who liked to discuss people and laugh at their mistakes. What they wear, how old-fashioned they look, how they talk……………….

They used to talk about people all the time and made fun of them on their backs and seemed normal when they were near. They made fun of their group members when they were not present.

When I got associated with that group, I started noticing the change in me too. I never liked to discuss people earlier, but later on, it became normal to me. And that was alarming for me later on and so I drifted myself from that group.

Another example of ‘birds of a feather, flock together.’ There were other groups in my workplace, where one was very cheerful, very lively, always laughing, and always proactive. Another group was the group that had a lot of complaints. All of them used to do the same thing.

But their behavior and approach towards situations were different. One always looked for solutions and the other always looked for problems and that was reflected in their performances too.

Your time is very valuable and how and with whom you spend your time matters a lot. It plays a very crucial role in achieving your goals and dreams. Because you tend to adopt the qualities of your group members in whichever group you are.

If you are not competent enough, but you are in a group of smart and intelligent people, you will work hard to become one of them. There will be a shift in your personality and will walk toward your growth.

Remember one thing, if you are walking with 10 losers then you will end up becoming the 11th one unconsciously. If you are around cynical, negative, ill-tempered people all the time then you will end up becoming one of them.

So why not align yourselves with positive people all the time? People who empower you. People with whom you can learn from. People who can challenge you to grow and who contribute to your growth. And people who encourage you to do something. The choice is yours. Where do we want to align ourselves?

BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER

Choose your company wisely or else no matter how big dreams you have, or how hardworking you are, you will learn to compromise. Select uplifting and encouraging people. People who like to challenge themselves, who are proactive and have a growth mindset, and who have a positive approach toward life.
