Short Story by the Indian Writer- The Forgotten Sacrifice
He looked himself in the mirror with his excruciating eyes. He felt like it was his first interaction with himself after so many seasons.
For the first time in his life, Rahim realized that he was helpless. He touched his face with his wrinkled hand trying to feel the passion, the energy radiating from his face.
His distraught eyes were looking for the ray of light that would revive his lost ardor but he couldn’t find any. It was gone.
His shriveled face was begging for some water, to feel alive again but he knew it would surrender soon.
He sat on his old, withered brown chair, which he and his wife delightfully bought when they made their first home. It was with him throughout his journey. Although it had lost its color, it still comforted his legs in pain. Touching its arms, tears rolled down from his eyes.
Short Story- The Forgotten Sacrifice
“I love you, son, I love you. I know you are so busy in your life that you don’t have time for me. I know that the world is running so fast that if you spend some time with me, you will be left far… far behind. I wish I could do anything to help you. I wish I could make your life a little easier.”
Rahim heard his shuddered voice that was once firm and vigorous with pride.
“Dad! Why don’t you mind your own business? You just sit and eat a whole day but I have to face this world. You can’t even walk properly. You need somebody around you every time, you know how much it costs….!!!”Suddenly his son’s words resonated in his ears. A few tears rolled down from his eyes…
“Sajida!” He felt his wife’s comforting hand on his head the way he liked.”You must be so proud of me Sajida. I made my promise. You asked me to take care of our son, see I did it. You left me when our son was just 5 years old. And now he is 30. He is a grown-up man now. And he has got all your beautiful features. Did you see him?”Rahim looked at his wife and saw her smiling.
