DON’T COUNT YOUR STEPS, SEE YOUR JOURNEY

Inspirational thought- Don’t Count your steps, see your journey

Every big accomplishment in life starts with a small step. That first step can feel intimidating, confusing, and exhilarating—it can be anything, but the feeling is often unique and unfamiliar.

In the beginning, you might experience anxiety when thinking about the huge goal ahead. And that’s perfectly normal. We are human, and our minds are wired to seek comfort and stay within familiar boundaries.

When I started my practicing career as an Architect and Interior Designer, it took me months to take the final step- “to quit my job.” My heart wanted to step outside my comfort zone and get into the adventure but my mind was skeptical.

It confronted me with the real world that I was about to face and I was petrified as I had no one around whom I could look up to and at the same time I had a lot to learn.

Stepping outside your comfort zone is hard. Your mind will resist it. But the key is to keep moving forward despite that resistance. The thought of reaching the top of a mountain may seem overwhelming, but if you break the journey down into smaller, manageable steps, the path becomes clearer and more achievable.

Today when I look back, I can see the pain I have gone through. It was not easy, and I had many sleepless nights. I wanted to establish myself as ‘Naseema Khatoon’ a good ‘Architect and Interior Designer’. And for that, I had to start from scratch.

I am not saying, I have achieved my goal. I have a lot to achieve, a lot to learn, and a lot to fail, to see myself as the place where I wanted to reach before I started. But one of the most important things that I have learned so far is to be ‘patient’.

Success is a process, and processes take time. At first, you might feel naive, make mistakes, and even stumble along the way. But if you continue moving forward, no matter how many times you fall, you will grow. Each fall teaches you something, and you will emerge stronger, more confident, and more resilient.

It’s not that you’ll stop falling—life has its ups and downs—but you’ll learn how to recover faster and focus on improving yourself with each setback.

DON’T COUNT YOUR STEPS, SEE YOUR JOURNEY

Initially, the failure affected me a lot. When I lost the work, I cried. When I couldn’t get the work, I cried. When somebody didn’t pay me, I cried… But now I have grown.

I still face failures but now I know that life has a lot to offer me. Things which is mine will be mine, sooner or later. I have to keep learning and keep growing.

Growth is gradual. Think about a child learning to walk. A newborn doesn’t start running right away. First, they learn to sit, then crawl, stand, walk, and finally run. It’s a process, and every step builds on the previous one.

Today, you might feel lost, confused, or unsure of yourself, and that’s okay. As long as you have a vision and are consistent in your efforts, you will eventually find your way.

It took 6-months to get my first payment which was Rs.5000/- after quitting my job. The only thing that kept me going- I was too stubborn to give up. Many people told me it was not a good idea. I should be getting married first and then should be doing what I wanted.

I didn’t listen to anybody. I still don’t listen to anyone. It might take some more time for me to reach where I want as I have certain responsibilities to fulfill as a wife and a mother of two kids but with God’s support I will be somewhere in my life if I will keep on taking small steps.

All I want to say is Be stubborn about your vision, but flexible in your actions.

Stay patient, have faith, and keep hope alive. You are unique because you chose to follow your heart, and very few people dare to do that.

Enjoy your vision, and keep moving forward. Every single step counts.

Remember, it’s not where you are today that matters—it’s where you’re headed.
