Short story- Echoes of longing: Breaking free from chains of isolation.

Suddenly she opened her eyes but couldn’t see anything. Why is it so dark here.? Disha… Disha… Where are you?!! Why there is no light..? Where the hell has everybody gone? Fiza screamed in terror.

She was Fiza, a strong and independent lady. She was staying away from her family for a long time. She was highly ambitious and worked very hard to reach the point where she is today. And in her mission to achieve her goals, she even forgot herself.

Today she was one of the most successful surgeons in the country and is running her hospital. People wanted to see her from around the world. She had dreamt of this kind of life when she was a child. At that time she had nothing but her dreams. She knew someday she would reach the place where she was today.

Though she was happy, sometimes she felt alone. She got so busy in her life that she didn’t get time to spend with her dear ones. It was a long time back since she met her parents and siblings. They became a chapter in her life that she didn’t get time to open.

She was in love twice in different phases of her life but was not lucky enough to enjoy that life for a longer period. Things didn’t work both times and she was left heartbroken.

After going through the pain of separation twice, she promised herself that she would never fall in love again and nothing could change her mind after that, or probably she couldn’t find anyone with whom she could rely.  Her ambitions became so big that everything looked small in front of her.

“Don’t shout… Stop screaming… Nobody is going to listen to you.”  It was the soft chilling voice of the lady that brought her to the real world.”Who are you? How did you get me here? I haven’t done anything wrong to anyone. Please let me go.” Fiza stuttered.

“Shhh… Calm down. I am not going to do anything to you. I just came to see how you are doing. Just wanted to say Hi to you. You don’t have time to see me now so I came to visit you.” The voice was still soft but still bone-chilling.

She felt the shadow of the lady moving towards her. She was tall but couldn’t see anything more than that because it was too dark. She got petrified when she found her stepping towards her and tried to move backward but found herself tied. “Why am I tied? What do you want from me? Tell me.” Fiza cried. Her face went pale with trepidation. There were so many questions running in her mind but there was no reply from her side.

Though she was a strong and independent lady she was always frightened with darkness and loneliness. That’s why she was staying in an apartment with her three servants Disha, Nyara, and Kirtu.  But today nobody was there to help her. She felt the pain of loneliness again.

Don’t waste your energy yelling at me. It’s your big day today. I told you I just came to say ‘Hi’ to you. I am someone whom you have been neglecting for years and now I am bound to meet you like this because you don’t want to see me anymore.

The voice was very close to her. Suddenly she felt the flash of light on that lady but was shocked to see her face bending towards her.

“Who the hell are you.” She was horrified after seeing her face. She felt like she had just seen her duplicate. But before could get any answer she found that lady burning. Her whole body got into the fire and she was crying, “Why did you do this to me? Why…? I just came to meet you and killed me.”

“No… I didn’t do anything… No… It’s not my mistake.” Fiza started wagging her head left and right. She could see her surroundings now. She realized that she was tied in a coffin and that attracted the fire and within no time that fire would slay her too.

“Help me… Please come help me….” She started yelling but couldn’t find anyone around. She could see her death with open eyes. Her heartbeat rose so fast that she felt like her heart came out from her body and sat next to her. Suddenly she felt someone sprinkle water to ease the fire and a few drops touched her face…

“Who are you? Where am I.” The situation, and the ambiance completely changed within no time. She found herself in a plane tied with a seat belt. So was dumbfounded and didn’t know how did she land here.”I am sorry ma’am that I sprinkled water on your face. I guess you had a bad dream.”

She found a young man around his mid-twenties smiling at her. “You were continuously saying, help me, help me and making various faces. I tried to wake you up but I guess your dream was too intense that you couldn’t hear my voice. I hope you are OK.”

That man was continuously saying something but she couldn’t hear anything nor she could say anything. She was immersed in her thoughts. She was on her way to London. She had a meeting there. She slept while reading the magazine and saw that dream. But it was not the first time she had encountered that kind of dream.

“What does it mean? What am I missing? Why am I seeing this dream again and again?” There were so many questions running through her mind, but she didn’t know the answer to any question or perhaps she never got time to think and ponder to find the answers.

“You are such a sweetheart. I love you so much, my baby. Do you want Mamma to kiss you again? Do you want it? Tell me…” Fiza saw a lady who was playing with her child and they both were looking very happy. She was kissing her child, again and again, tickling him, making him laugh and that made the lady laugh as well.

She could still feel her agony her loneliness from the dream but that scene brought a smile to her face. She had everything from the materialistic world today but she lacked the emotions. The feeling of love the feeling of being loved, the feeling of having a family on which she can rely. She couldn’t feel any of the emotion today.

Short story- Echoes of longing: Breaking free from chains of isolation.

Years back, when she was in love, she weaved the dreams of having a beautiful home with a husband and two kids. She wanted to have a family. She was ambitious but had never imagined sacrificing her relationship over a career. She wanted to have a balanced life.

After her heart broke, she locked all her emotions in a dark room. She was devastated but couldn’t talk to anyone. She needed help but couldn’t ask for that. She detached herself from her family members and friends because she felt they reminded her of her broken heart. They reminded her how lonely she was. They became the forgotten chapter of her life. They still contacted her but she was always busy to give them some time.

You can have control over your emotions with open eyes and can keep yourself busy so that your mind won’t astray but in your dreams, your unfulfilled desires become a warrior. It starts haunting you, it starts reminding you that you are missing something and you have no control over that.

It was the story of Fiza. She needed someone willing to pour his unconditional love on her, who was always there to comfort her. Who takes care of her not because he is paid but because he wants to. She wanted companionship. She wanted to have that feeling again that she had buried a long time back and never got time to nurture again.

Unconditional love makes your life a garden with beautiful flowers.

Today after seeing that dream when she saw that mother and child playing she felt immense pleasure and wanted to have that feeling of love again. There was still a child inside her who was caged in bars and was striving hard to achieve freedom, who wanted to breathe in the fresh air again where there was love everywhere.

Failure in love once compelled her to walk away from her dear ones who cared and bothered about her. But now she was willing to bridge the gap. She was willing to bring love into her life again. And she knew it though she was late she would make it happen again.

She took out her cell phone from her bag to text her mother and saw the reminder of revising the presentation. Had it been another day she would have ignored all her feelings and thoughts and would have gotten engaged with her work. But today was different.

She ignored the reminder and wrote a message to her mother. She told her how much she loved her, how much she missed her, and how much she wanted to be with her. She apologized to her for not being with her and promised her that she would be with her soon and would never leave her again.

It’s never too late to improve your mistakes.

She poured all her emotions into that one message and eagerly waited for the reply of her mother. She was happy and contented today because today she was ready to leave all her baggage behind and to give a new start. She was ready to paint the canvas with bright colors with soothing emotions.
